Tie bars are coming back into the spotlight lately so we want to give you an easy when and when not to wear tie bars list for this somewhat useless, but still very unique and fun men’s accessory:
WHEN TO WEAR TIE BARS
- If you are in a career which requires you to wear a tie or be active or bend over…a lot
- If your tie bar generally coordinates with your other metal accessories like your belt buckle (gold, silver, etc)
- If you aren’t wearing many other accessories
- If you have figured out the placement of a tie bar along the tie–at the very bottom of your sternum/chest bone
- If you’re wearing a skinny tie
WHEN NOT TO WEAR TIE BARS
- If you are interviewing
- If you are already wearing a pocket square, rings, necklaces and a bunch of other bling–less is usually more
- If you can’t keep the tie bar straight–that’s the whole reason you’re wearing it
- If you aren’t wearing a tie…duh
You can always find vintage tie bars at vintage shops, on eBay or other online resalers, or get one either splurging or saving:
